Over the past few years more and more people have become more health conscious about what they put in their bodies. Studies have shown with exercise and eating a well-balanced diet you can maintain optimal health. With that being said, shouldn't we be just as conscious of what we put on our bodies? If you're not quite sure, I'm here to tell you. The answer is a hard YES! And here's why. Your skin is an organ and serves as a protective layer for your entire body. It absorbs everything from smog, smoke, pollen, toxins, etc. These are known as free radicals. So with all of these environmental factors wearing on your skin, you must take preventative measures to counteract the damage that these free radicals cause over time. The best way to do this is by using REAL natural products that help you fight against free radicals, all while achieving and/or maintaining a healthy glow. I say "real" because for the vast majority of consumers, this is not being done. It's time that the secrets are revealed about what's hidden in your skincare and I'm here to spread the truth.

Through my extensive research of the most popular, widely used body care brands I've come to the realization that we've been being lied to for years. Did you know that there are currently no legal requirements for any cosmetic manufacturer marketing products to American consumers to test their products for safety? That means companies can use whatever they want, however they want, and say whatever they need to make a sale, without any regard for the public health. It's sad but true. So much so that the FDA's cosmetic regulations have gone unchanged since 1938. That's over 82 years of consistently marketing toxic personal care, home, and cosmetic products to the masses. Yikes!

According to an MSN report, the total number of toxic ingredients in cosmetic products that are banned in the US (a mere 11, yes onle ELEVEN) fail in comaparison to those of other countries like the UK and Australia, where more than 1,400 chemical have been restricted or completely bannedfrom personal care products.

If all of this information is new to you, then it's definitely time for a skincare upgrade. Gone are the days of greenwashing by plastering "All Natural" on the front of a product to mislead you and take your attention from checking the ingredients.

So let's start now! Go grab your favorite skincare product and read the ingredients. Is it what it says it is? If there are suspicious ingredients that you don't understand or can't even pronounce, its time to make the switch. Knowledge is key and the more conscious you are about what you use, the better you are able to love your skin. By becoming a conscious consumer you are putting the wellness of yourself and your family into your own hands. You no longer have to fall subject to false marketing of cosmetic and personal care companies. Amore Organics is here to assist you along the way through education, being an industry leader for change and transparency in the cosmetics space, and by challenging outdated standards making clean beauty products the new normal, not just a trend.

To help you begin your mindful self care journey I have put together The Laundry List which is an ingredients guide of known toxic chemicals widely used in the beauty industry but will NEVER be included in any Amore Organics formulations. You can download it to your phone here to use as a reference during your next trip down the personal care aisle. We also encourage you to do your own research because we want to create a community of smart, well rounded, self-loving individuals that care about what they're putting on their bodies and its impact on the environment.

Another resource you can use is the Environmental Working Group website. These are a team of diverse industry experts like scientists, lawyers, analyst and data specialists that focus on improving the conditions that cause negative environmental health issues. Put your ingredients into the EWG database to see how that product is rated on a scale from 0-10. 0 being the best non toxic ingredients 10 being the worst toxic ingredients.

I know that this may be a lot to digest but it is our mission to do all we can to make your transition as easy as possible. So here are a few tips on how to begin the journey with ease:

Clean Beauty Tip #1: Give yourself grace and don't overthink things. Now that you know better you can begin to do better.

Clean Beauty Tip #2: A rule of thumb when making the transition to natural products is to do it one product at a time. That way you can gauge what works for you and what doesn't.

Clean Beauty Tip #3: Ditch the products that have the highest toxic exposure levels first. These are products that are not usually washed off or are left on the skin for some time (like lotions, sunscreens, and shampoos).

Clean Beauty Tip #4: Reuse packaging whenever possible to reduce waste. Get creative! For example, shallow conditioner jars can be reused as planters. If you can't find a way to reuse it, check its recycling status and dispose of it responsibly.
